Background
The entire Battletech game starts when the player aka the mercenary is hired by the Tamati Arano of house Arano to be the honor guard for his daughter’s coronation ceremony. During the coronation, the Aurigan dictatorship is established and the report of Arano’s daughter death arises and the sole survivor is said to be the player only. The player then joins the Markham’s marauders where he is sent to retrieve an ancient bandit dropship by the Magistrate. Later it was found was sent there by the magistrate to test his skills to fight against the dictatorship.

Role of the player
The role of the player at the very start of the game is quite simple as it involves building one’s squad called a lance, with each kind of mechs, and then one will have to fight in various missions and challenges to get to the upper level. The four types of mechs to choose from are:
Sniper: it wields a PPC or the particle projection cannon, which can shoot a proton ball from a long distance. This PPC is attached to the vindicator mechs and one should try to get at least two of them two have a good chance in battle.
Brawler: this category includes middleweight and heavyweight battlemechs. They can mount missiles of shorter range. These missiles can be mounted on the centurion and shadow hawk class mechs.
Scout: these are lightly armed and have good maneuvering, but one needs to keep them safe or else they will be taken down. One can equip them with jump jets so that they can move easily over the obstacles.
Fire support: Most blackjack class mechs are used for this type. They tend to have a laser and projectile kind weaponry and can engage in short to medium distance.
